VanTele Mobility is a product of VanTele Holdings (PTY) Ltd, headquartered in Eenhana, Ohangwena Region, Namibia. The platform was founded by Theleson Daniel and launched in 2026 to address the lack of affordable, technology-enabled transport solutions in Northern Namibia and beyond.

The platform is accessible via Android mobile applications (separate driver and passenger apps) and a web interface at mobility.vantele.com.ng. It is part of the broader VanTele ecosystem, which includes the VanTele Marketplace at vantele.com.ng.

As of 2026, VanTele Mobility operates 134+ active inter-town routes and works with 1+ verified drivers across Namibia.

Services

City Taxi (Ride-Hailing)

VanTele Mobility provides on-demand ride-hailing in 46 Namibian towns. Passengers request rides through the mobile app, receive a real-time fare estimate, and are matched with the nearest available verified driver within 60 seconds. Rides are tracked via live GPS. Payment is accepted by cash or digital wallet. Minimum fare is N$15 in town centres and N$20 in Windhoek and coastal towns. Shared rides are available at a 30% discount.

Inter-Town Transport (Seat Booking)

Drivers operating on inter-town routes schedule trips in the platform. Passengers search available trips by origin and destination, select a seat class (standard, window, or front), and book in advance. SMS reminders are sent 2 hours before departure. The platform operates 122+ routes connecting towns along the B1 Highway corridor and across all Namibian regions.

Parcel Delivery

VanTele Mobility offers door-to-door parcel delivery with live status tracking. Each parcel is assigned a unique tracking code in the format VTM########. Parcels are collected by a driver and travel with inter-town trips, reducing cost by up to 30%. Real-time status updates are sent to sender and recipient via SMS at each stage: collected, in transit, arrived, and delivered. Pricing starts at N$20 for small items, with additional charges for distance, weight above 5kg, fragile handling, and declared-value insurance.

VanTele Agent

Verified VanTele Mobility drivers can register as VanTele Agents to handle marketplace deliveries, cash-on-delivery collections, and seller registration assistance on behalf of the VanTele Marketplace platform. This provides an additional revenue stream for drivers already active on transport routes.

Fare Structure

City taxi fares are calculated using the formula:
fare = max((base_fare + km × per_km_rate + min × per_min_rate) × time_multiplier × surge, minimum_fare)
Results are always rounded to the nearest N$5 for cash payment convenience.

Minimum fares: N$15 in all towns · N$20 in Windhoek and coastal towns. Inter-town seat fares start from N$20 and use a per-kilometre rate (N$0.78/km for regional routes, N$0.52/km for highway routes ≥ 200km).

Driver Programme

VanTele Mobility drivers retain 85% of each fare at the basic tier. The commission decreases as drivers advance through tiers: Verified (12%), Trusted (10%), Premium (8%), Gold (5%). There is no monthly subscription fee. Drivers may operate city rides, inter-town routes, parcel delivery, or all three.

Requirements: Valid Namibian driver's licence, national ID, police clearance certificate (not older than 6 months), roadworthy vehicle, and an Android 8+ smartphone.

Applications are submitted at mobility.vantele.com.ng/drivers/signup/. Verification takes approximately 48 hours. Approved drivers receive an SMS notification and can immediately go online to accept rides.

Technology

The backend is built on Django 5.2 with Django REST Framework for the API layer. Real-time features — including live driver GPS, ride status updates, and parcel tracking — are powered by Django Channels over WebSocket connections. GPS coordinates are streamed from drivers every 3 seconds with minimal payload for low-bandwidth performance.

The driver and passenger mobile applications are built with Flutter for Android. The administrative dashboard is a Next.js 14 application. SMS notifications are delivered via Africa's Talking, ensuring delivery across 2G networks. Payments are processed through Flutterwave and MobiPay.

The platform is designed for low-bandwidth conditions. API responses are minimal, images are compressed, and all critical notifications have SMS fallbacks. The system operates on SQLite in development and PostgreSQL with PostGIS in production.
